Runcorn State School was established in 1901 and is located in Sunnybank. Runcorn State School provides modern education in a traditional setting and instils the values of community and learning as a partnership amongst its families.

The school is a band 8 school with 368 students and is in the South East Brisbane District within the Greater Brisbane Region.

While the majority of our families live in Runcorn, many students bypass other primary schools to attend our school. Cultural and socio economic backgrounds vary widely. The population of Runcorn State School has remained fairly stable over the past few years.

The school is located in well landscaped grounds with native gardens and a community established rainforest. Upgrades to play areas include reticulation, two new adventure playgrounds and a sandpit for prep students.

Sporting facilities include a heated pool, large oval, tennis courts, a covered basketball court, netball courts, cricket pitch and covered play areas.

The school is currently undergoing continual facilities upgrades. A brand new building for the prep year, effective water usage strategies including tanks and fittings, upgrading computer lab facilities and air-conditioning of the library are just some of the projects which are in progress.

Community support is evident with active School Council and P&C Association. The school has a good relationship with local high schools, child care centres and church groups. This is apparent in the popularity of the “small school community feel” which is fostered at Runcorn State School and attracts a significant number of enrolments.

The school has well established processes for staff participation in decision making and curriculum planning through committees and curriculum coordination groups. The prevailing culture reflects our communities expressed desire for innovative and challenging education.

The school’s responsible behaviour plan focuses on providing a safe and supportive learning environment for students. The program has been developed in conjunction with staff and the community and provides a consistent approach to establishing a supportive learning environment.
