House systems
The school operates a three house system for inter-school sporting competitions. The houses are named after Australian flora. House Colours are:
Acacia – Yellow, Grevillea – Red , Banksia - Green
All children are allocated to a House on enrolment with a view to keeping families in the same House, whilst endeavouring to maintain boy/girl age group balance.
Sports competitions
Students in Years 5 and 6 participate in 4 interschool carnival days throughout the year. Students train in various sports and then participate in whole-day carnivals - Gala days, competing against a number of local schools.
Swimming
Swimming for students occurs in Term 1 and Term 4. The Runcorn State School Pool is the venue for our swimming lessons.
Track and field
Prep to Year 3 compete in a track and field carnival using a Mini-Olympics format to develop skills in a variety of areas.Years 4 – 6 compete in a formal Track and Field Events Carnival as a member of their sports house. From these competitions, children have an opportunity to be selected in the school team for District competitions.Cross Country All children are encouraged to take part in the Cross Country, to develop fitness. Years 3 - 6 run through the neighbourhood area, under teacher supervision. Children have the opportunity to be selected to compete in the school team for the District Cross Country.
