Explicit School Improvement Agenda 2015
At Runcorn State School the emphasis will be on providing the best opportunities to achieve the intended curriculum. We will achieve this through:
ü  Focus on targeted teaching of Reading
o    Explicitly  focussing on Reading through the embedding of the Runcorn State School Reading Framework including decoding/comprehension skills
o    Data driven  ability groups for Reading
o    Individual student goals, strategies and targets for student improvement
o    Peer Coaching using the Master Teacher approach; Supporting consistency with Reading
 
ü  Focus on targeted teaching of Writing
o    Implement The Runcorn State School Writing Program
o    Provide students with explicit strategies / tools for sustained writing
o    Metropolitan Instructional Coaching model; Embed school wide consistent writing practices 
o    Data driven individual Student Goals, strategies and targets for student improvement
 
ü  Focus on targeted teaching of Numeracy and Problem Solving
o    Embed a whole school Numeracy and problem solving program
o    Provide students with explicit strategies / tools for problem solving
o    Metropolitan Instructional Coaching model; Embed consistent numeracy metalanguage
o    Data driven individual Student Goals, strategies and targets for student improvement
 
ü  Embed the You Can Do It social and emotional support program
o    Embed whole school implementation of the five foundations – Getting Along, Confidence, Persistence, Resilience, Organisation
o    Explicitly identify and teach expected behaviours for academic and social success
o    Focus on the “You Can Do It” 13 Habits of the Mind
o    Celebrate student achievement
 
At Runcorn State School, we know literacy and numeracy are keys to improving student outcomes. We will:
ü  Continue our clear focus on literacy and numeracy by embedding them within all teaching Units.
ü  Respond to a range of student achievement data and select strategies that meet individual learning needs.
ü  Build teacher capacity and pedagogical practice using the Metro Region Instructional Coaching model.
ü  Ensure that the teaching of literacy and numeracy is consistent throughout the school as identified in  the Runcorn State School Pedagogical Framework
ü  Clearly articulate sequences of learning for each year level.
ü  Provide quality resources to enhance the teaching of English and literacy, Mathematics and numeracy.
ü  Embed ICTS across the curriculum to enhance student learning.
